Ciao James, è un piacere per me farti qualche domanda sul nuovo album e poter parlare con te, ti informo che l'intervista sarà online sul nostro web magazine Cathouse, che è un progetto nato nel 1997 per rivitalizzare tutta la scena hard rock nel nostro paese.

- La prima domanda è molto semplice: avete fatto un ottimo lavoro in studio....puoi raccontarmi liberamente come è stato il processo di creazione e registrazione?

Ciao Roby, Il processo non è cambiato molto dall'ultimo album, iniziamo con la prima canzone. In questo caso era "Crowded Room" scritta da James Christian, Jimi Bell e Kristian Fyhr. Dal momento in cui ho sentito la traccia ho capito che era l'opener del disco. Ha gli elementi per coinvolgere gli ascoltatori fin dall'inizio. Preferisco sapere dove sta andando il disco prima che tutti inizino a scrivere tracce.

-  dopo qualche ascolto oserei dire che questo album è la giusta continuazione del bellissimo "Saints and Sinners", sei d'accordo?

Sì, sono d'accordo. Questo perché abbiamo sfruttato i talenti della band per lavorare insieme come abbiamo fatto nel disco precedente. Non abbiamo mai avuto un membro nella band come tastierista, compositore e cantante dai tempi di Greg Giuffria. Penso che Mark sia stata l'aggiunta perfetta perché è uno scrittore prolifico e anche un fantastico tastierista. Anche Johan Kullberg è tornato alla batteria ed è un grande musicista. È stato molto emozionante scrivere ed eseguire questo CD perché tutti erano molto motivati ​​nel continuare su un percorso musicale portandolo sempre avanti.

- c'è un messaggio particolare che vuoi trasmettere ai tuoi ascoltatori nella scrittura delle nuove composizioni?

Lasciamo che gli ascoltatori si facciano la loro opinione. Ogni canzone può significare qualcosa di diverso per ogni persona, è questa la bellezza della scrittura delle canzoni.

- nel lunghissimo brano da dieci minuti “Castles High” si toccano diversi stili musicali, dall'Aor al progressive, dal pomp rock a certi stili rock anni settanta...nelle tastiere ho sentito alcuni passaggi in stile Deep Purple. Sei d'accordo?

Sì, abbiamo iniziato con Mark Mangold, era la sua composizione. Ma tutti i membri della band erano d'accordo nel dire che si trattava di una composizione decisamente epica. Quindi, tutti abbiamo dovuto fare la nostra parte per dargli vita, ogni passaggio della canzone scorreva senza soluzione di continuità ma poi ci siamo riusciti. Sapevamo che era un rischio registrare una canzone lunga 10 minuti, ma credo che una volta che l'ascoltatore sente l'intro, diventerà curioso di sapere dove andremo a parare. Il finale vede il grande Robin Beck cantare con me per concludere il finale del brano....

- qual è il segreto di questa tua forte longevità musicale ..

Ci sono molte idee musicali rimaste in ognuno di noi, scriviamo costantemente, non solo per questa band ma per altri progetti. È una vera passione ed è come dovrebbe essere.

- qual è la caratteristica migliore di questo album e, invece, dimmi se alla fine del lavoro avresti voluto cambiare qualcosa?

la mia traccia preferita è "Full Tilt Overdrive". Ti colpisce in faccia dalla prima nota e lo slancio è infinito. Jimi Bell e Mark Mangold suonano insieme come fratelli, l'energia di Johan è inarrestabile. Per quanto mi riguarda è stata una delle song dove ho cantato meglio a livello di interpretazione. Cosa potresti chiedere di più a una canzone? No, non cambierei nulla di questo disco..... ma però prova a richiedermelo tra qualche mese.

- fai musica dagli anni '80, hai visto mode, tendenze, artisti ma anche pubblico passare; come pensi che sia cambiato il mondo della musica ora rispetto al passato. Cosa cambieresti ora?

Tutto cambia, non solo la musica. Non possiamo rimanere bloccati negli anni '80 anche se ci sono molti ascoltatori a cui non dispiacerebbe. L'unica cosa a cui rimaniamo fedeli è il lato melodico delle tracce heavy rock. Devi evolverti un po' per soddisfare la tua creatività senza far incazzare i fan devoti che vorrebbero che la musica rimanesse così com'è. Sembra che troviamo sempre quell'equilibrio, ma non è mai al 100%, niente lo è.

- il tuo genere che è stato il vero boom negli anni '80 sembra aver subito un calo di popolarità, tra i giovani nel corso degli anni rispetto a stili più metal e aggressivi. pensi che il rock melodico sarà in grado di tornare in cima come una volta?

beh...il fatto che ci sia ancora un pubblico è molto stimolante. Per quanto ne so sono le band degli anni '80 che riempiono le arene. Ogni festival presenta principalmente musica degli anni '80, ma in termini di vendite di dischi, la maggior parte delle persone sta scaricando la loro musica. Ma il lato positivo è che amano di nuovo il vinile.

- la formazione attuale è la stessa del penultimo album; dopo così tanti cambi di formazione pensi di essere riuscito a trovare la formazione ideale?

Beh, adoro questa formazione attuale, ma amavo anche quella precedente. È solo che le persone vanno avanti e fanno altre cose e progetti. Non c'è niente di sbagliato in questo.

- una domanda particolare James: ti descriveresti come un artista e come una persona semplice con l'aiuto di un solo aggettivo che spieghi perché?

Sì, mi descrivo come un Artista e sono un Uomo Semplice che è "Umile"

- come hai strutturato la promozione dell'album a livello live? Verrai anche da noi in Italia e se sì in quale città?

Questa volta abbiamo in programma un tour in Europa e negli Stati Uniti. Poiché ho alcuni problemi di salute, ci siamo presi una pausa dai tour. Ma sono motivato a fare un tour nel 2025 per promuovere "Full Tilt Overdrive"

ENGLISH TRANSLATION

Hi James, it’s a pleasure for me to ask you about the new album and to be able to talk to you; It’s been a fan of yours since the beginning and your interview will go online on our web magazine Cathouse, http://www.cathouse.it, which is a project born in 1997 to revitalize the whole hard rock scene in our country.

1) The first question is very simple: you did a great job in the studio....can you tell me freely how the creation and recording process was?

Hi Roby, The process really has not changed much since the last album, we start with the first song. In this case it was “Crowded Room” written by James Christian, Jimi Bell and Kristian Fyhr. From the moment I heard the track I knew it was the opener of the record. It has the elements to draw listeners in right from the start. I prefer to know where the record is going before everyone starts writing tracks.

2) after a few listens I would dare to say that this album is the right continuation of the beautiful “Saints and Sinners” do you agree?

Yes, I do agree. That is because we utilized the talents of the band to work together as we did on the previous record. We have not really had a member in the band as an official Keyboard sing Greg Giuffria. I think that Mark Was the perfect addition as he is a prolific writer as well as an awesome Keyboards player. Johan Kullberg is back as well on Drums, and he is such a great player as well. This CD was very exciting to write and perform because everyone was very motivated to continue on a forward musical path.

3) is there a particular message that you want to convey to your listeners in the songwriting of the new compositions?

We let the listeners make up their own mind. Each song can mean something different for each person. That’s the beauty of songwriting.

4) in the very long ten-minute track “Castles High” you touch on different musical styles,

from Aor to progressive, from pomp rock to certain seventies rock styles...in the keyboards I heard some passages style Deep Purple. Do you agree?

Yes, we started with Mark Mangolds Track. It was his composition. But all the band members were in agreement that this was an epic composition. So, we all had to do our part to bring it to life. Each passage of the song flowed seamlessly. We knew it was a risk to record a song that was 10 minutes long, but I believe once the listener hears the intro, they become curious where we will go with this. The finale has the great Robin Beck singing with me to cap off the ending of the track, Truly EPIC

5) what is the secret of so much musical longevity on your part and... how do you keep your voice still so splendid?

There are a lot of musical ideas left in all of us, we write constantly, not only for this band but for other projects. It’s a true passion and it is as it should be.

6) what is the best feature of this album and, instead, tell me if at the end of the work you would have wanted to change something else?

My Favorite track is Full Tilt Overdrive. It hits you in the face from the very 1st note. The momentum is endless. Jimi Bell and Mark Mangold play together like Brothers, Johan’s energy is nonstop. As for me its was one of my favorite vocals. What more could you ask for in a song. No, I would not change anything on this record, but ask me in a few months.

7) you have been making music since the 80s, you have seen fashions, trends, artists but also audiences pass by; how do you think the music world has changed now compared to the past. What would you change now?

Everything changes, not just music. We cannot stay locked in the 80’s although there are many listeners who wouldn’t mind that. The one thing we stay true to is the Melodic side of Heavy Rock tracks. You have to evolve a bit to satisfy your creativity without pissing off the dedicated Fans who would like the music to stay the way it is. We always seem to find that balance, but it’s never 100%, nothing is.

8) your genre that was the real boom in the 80s seems to have suffered a decline in popularity, among young people over the years compared to more metal and aggressive styles. do you think melodic rock will be able to return to the top like it once was?

Well. the fact that there is still an audience is very inspiring. As far as I see. It’s 80’s bands that are filling arenas. Every festival features mostly 80’s music, but in terms of record sales, most people are downloading their music. But on a positive side, they do love Vinyl again.

9) the current line up is the same as the penultimate album; after so many line up changes do you think you have managed to find the ideal formation?

Well, I do love this currently lineup, But I loved the prior lineup as well. It’s just that people move on and do other things and projects. There is nothing wrong with that.

10) a particular question james: would you describe yourself as an artist and as a simple

person with the help of just one adjective explaining why?

Yes, I do describe myself as an Artist and, I am A Simple Man who is “Humble”

11) how did you structure the promotion of the album at a live level? Will you also come to us in Italy and if so in which city?

This time around we plan a tour of Europe and Of the USA. It is because I have some health problems, we have taken time off from touring. But I am motivated to do a 2025 tour to promote “Full Tilt Overdrive.in the past
