Eccoci qua con il primo album dei Vypera, un gruppo emergente dalla Svezia, il paese in cui anche gli Elks stanno imparando a “fare mosh” (gli Elks sono alci-vapiti svedesi, ndr). "Eat your heart out" offre una scrittura intelligente e variabile che ti entra direttamente nell'orecchio. Allora, cosa c'è dentro? Andiamo ad affrontare questa recensione track by track. “Slow Me Down”: sì!! foot stomping, musica di headbanging con alcune grandi parti up-tempo prima del ritornello. Produzione massiccia, chitarre ritmiche fantastiche, leads-guitars solo piacevoli. All-in per un vero rocker. Frase altamente memorabile del brano..."Catch me if you can, slow me down". “I Standing On The Edge”: la canzone ha l'effetto del momento in cui smonti da lavoro e ti rechi in un posto a berti qualcosa...ti porta via, un buon lavoro di batteria, buoni solos, potrebbe funzionare bene dal vivo di fronte a un vasto pubblico. “Spellbound”: bel basso metallico e doppie armonie tra chitarra sinistra e destra, un pò come i primi Iron Maiden. Ottimo da ricordare e cantare insieme. Mi sembra di essere tornato negli anni '80 - dov'è la mia lacca? ...hehehehe. “Sierra”: riff e introduzione rock classici, avanza come un grande treno merci attraverso la sierra svedese (ce n'è una?...nda). Ottimo tempismo e la band è tesa come un ca**o. Mi piacciono anche i leads intelligenti e organici. Ehi, ho bisogno di prendere una birra e ballare con voi ragazzi! “Rock'n'roll”: aspetta ….”strofiniamoci gli occhi”...ho appena visto un moshpit davanti al palco dei Vypera? I rock n roller possono fare moshpit? Ovviamente sì! ”Fantasy”: sono le 5:30 del mattino... la festa è finita da tempo... siamo seduti fuori e condividiamo felicemente la nostra ultima bottiglia di vodka, e questa canzone è in loop da 30 minuti... potrebbe esserci qualcosa di meglio? Penso di no. “Straight For The Kill”: di nuovo una canzone piena di lick alla Yngwie Malmsteen, grande. Il brano più lungo dell'album.... mi ricorda un po' i Children of Bodom. “Danger”: come dovrebbe iniziare una canzone rock classica, con un bel riff di chitarra e alcune pause nel mezzo. Composizione molto buona e di facile ascolto. I tuoi piedi non possono stare fermi! Il finale arriva un pò in fretta, però. “Fool For The Night”: avvertimento! Questa canzone può contenere tracce di Dio e Rainbow. Il consumo prolungato può creare dipendenza! Consulta il tuo medico ...hehe. “Cold As Ice”: Vypera passa alla 5a marcia! Ampia come una nave vichinga. Potrebbe essere la musica del titolo di Terminator VI?! Però con 4:14 minuti è quasi troppo corta. “Wingborne”: non così orecchiabile e armonica come le altre canzoni, probabilmente ha bisogno di più attenzione da parte dell'ascoltatore. Tecnicamente solida, però. Riassumendo l'album direi: scrittura intelligente e variabile, senza confondere il pubblico, massiccia produzione e arrangiamenti, fantastica la copertina dell'album molto retrò. Avrei voluto ascoltare -magari- dei finali più epici e mi permetto di affermare che una seconda chitarra potrebbe estendere lo spettro con alcune interruzioni in più tra sinistra e destra. So here we do have the first album of VYPERA, an emerging act from Sweden, the country where even Elks are learning to mosh. "Eat your heart out" features intelligent and variable songwriting which goes straight into your ear. So, what's in it? “Slow me down”: Yeah!! Foot stomping, head banging music with some great uptempo parts before the chorus. Fat production, cool strumming guitars, nice leads. All-in for a true rocker. Highly memorable line "Catch me if you can, slow me down". “Standing on the Edge”: Sundowner song .. carries you away, good drum work, tapping leads, could work well live in front of a big audience. “Spellbound”: Nice metallic bass and dual harmonies between left and right guitar, a little bit like early Iron Maiden. Great to remember and sing along with. Feels like I am back in the 80ies - where is my hairspray?? ;D “Sierra”: Classic rock riff and intro, steams on like a big freighttrain through the swedish sierra (if there is one?). Excellent timing and the band is tight as fuck. I also like the clever and organic leads. Hey, I need to grab a beer and boogie with you guys! “Rock N Roll”: Wait *rub*eyes* - did I just see a moshpit in front of VYPERAs stage? Can rocknrollers do moshpits? Obviously yes! “Fantasy”: It's 5:30 in the morning... the party is long over.. we are sittin' outside and happily sharing our last bottle of Vodka, and this song is on loop since 30 minutes.. could there be anything better? I guess no. “Straight for the Kill”: Again a song filled with Yngwie Malmsteen-like licks, great one. The longest on the album. End reminds me a bit of Children of Bodom.”Danger”: Like a classic rock song should start, with a cool guitar riff and some breaks in between. Very good composition and easy-to-listen-to. Your feet can't keep still! Ending comes a bit aprupt, though. “Fool for the night”: Warning! This song can countain traces of Dio and Rainbow. Prolonged consumation may be addictive! Consult your doctor :D “Cold as Ice”: VYPERA shifting into 5th gear! Broad as a VIKING ferry. Could be the title music for Terminator VI?! With 4:14 almost too short.” Wingborne”: Not so catchy and harmonic as the other songs, probably needs more attention from the listener. Technically solid, though. Summary: Intelligent and variable songwriting, without confusing the audience, great fat production, cool retro album cover, only I'd wish to have some more epic endings, plus a second guitar could extend the spectrum with some more breaks between left and right. Non male l'idea all'origine della formazione di questo combo musicale, ovvero di ricreare una female band che fosse una versione metal di tanti project pop visti e sentiti (anche) nel passato. Ok, queste Venus 5 sono l'unione di cinque female vocalist provenienti da diverse pareti del globo ed ognuna con una propria esperienza musicale: Herma (dei Sick N' Beautiful), Karmen Klinc, Jelena Milovanovic, Tezzi Persson (degli Infinite & Divine) ed Erina Seitllari. Puntualizziamo che non trattasi di una all female band poiché gli altri strumentisti sono maschietti ma, il fulcro, sia visivo che vocale, è tutto al femminile. Il risultato è indubbiamente interessante, un prodotto nuovo e adeguatamente prodotto che strizza l'occhio al modern rock/metal con tinte pop ma anche sinfoniche e sorrette, comunque, da un pregevole guitar riffing in alternanza a momenti “power”. Le qui presenti donzelle posseggono tutte un'ugola eccellente ma il must sono le chorus line e i passaggi cantati all'unisono che contribuiscono a dare il giusto pathos alle armonie e alla struttura dei pezzi. Una song che accomuna metal a momenti “pop” che si riflettono nel cantato è “Bride With Blackend Eyes” ma un po' tutte le tracce hanno questa peculiarità. Abbiamo la parte più heavy che rimembra a tratti Within Temptation o Amaranthe mentre i refrain, le chorus line avviluppano l'ascoltatore in un suono d'insieme a volte elettronico e alternativo. Echi degli Smackbound della brava Netta Laurenne si sentono in alcune tracce, soprattutto in quelle più “alternative” come l'intrigante “Because Of You” ma nonostante tutto questo omonimo debut album ha le carte in regola per rapire cuori e regalare quasi un'oretta di musica energica e maliziosa al tempo stesso. Consigliato.
