ENGLISH TRANSLATION

With a little advance, but the desire was huge and - among other things - expect my interview with the good James soon, here I am to review the fourteenth studio effort of what in my opinion is the mammasantissima, the cornerstone band of the Adult Oriented Rock movement as well as pompous and melodic rock. Even if, however, such labels are too narrow for James Christian and his associates, they have dictated some rules with their first two albums, "House of Lords" '89 and especially the masterpiece "Sahara" of 1991, but let's point out - some might say - that the aforementioned genre was already in vogue in the early eighties (we could mention Angel, Aviator, Giuffria...), but the appearance in the music world of this all stars band allowed them to rewrite some fundamental canons. Of the stellar lineup of "Sahara", Giuffria, Cordola, Mary, Guy, Wright, after many lineup changes, the founder and vocalist James Christian remained accompanied by another "long-time" member, Jimi Bell on guitars (who joined the lineup in 2006 with the album "World Upside Down", the second after the reunion in 2000) and Mangold and Koleberg already present in the penultimate "Saints and Sinners" who contribute significantly to making this full length album a concentration of class and quality. According to the band, the album is stronger than the previous ones but, listening to it, I can say that I did not find this excessive hardness compared to other works, let's say that it continues the harder line of its predecessor "Saints and Sinners", released in 2022. As always, the compositions are valid, James did not skimp on anything and the notable guitar work of the good Jimi Bell make a pretty good product. Among the top songs I would recommend listening to the fast and pompous "Full Tilt Overdrive", but also "Taking the Fall" with its semi-acoustic beginning and alternations to heavy rock passages or "Not The Enemy" with its hard-pomp rock pace graced by a fine keyboard sound by Mark sealed by thick riffs by axe man Jimi. I'm sorry that "Bad Karma" was chosen as the single, honestly it's a simple song but above all not very incisive and without character; to promote albums by artists of this caliber I don't understand why they make - often - inappropriate choices. A good example of heavy rock - even if it doesn't make you shout for a miracle - is the opener "Crowded Room" which, in my opinion, could have been the launch single for "Full Tilt Overdrive". Worth mentioning is the very long (almost ten minutes!) "Castles High" which has the task of closing the album; an epic and at times almost progressive song, full of atmospheres that winks at the praiseworthy and valuable keyboard contribution to Deep Purple with very seventies symphonic passages and full of pathos. Really well-aimed is the break towards the middle of the song with the insertion of keys but above all organ and a solo part dedicated to the keyboards that highlights the excellent skills of Mangold and then leaves room for Bell's six strings that chisels an effective solo to then reunite in one and continue the song. There are certainly other moments worthy of note but, making an average, the songs not mentioned manage to create that amalgam of good rock, sweetened to the right point, winking and with the right dose of energy; perhaps I would have liked, in the totality of almost an hour of music, more tracks with more character, those that in the end make you want to hum them immediately and their refrain sticks in your brain. Well, from this point of view "Full..." is inferior to the previous "Saints and Sinners" but I still think it manages to make a dent in the hearts of the group's many fans.
