I maestri dell'hard rock britannico TEN hanno utilizzato i tempi di inattività durante la pandemia mondiale per lavorare non su uno, ma su due nuovi album. Il primo album ad essere pubblicato, "Here Be Monsters", è arrivato il 18 febbraio 2022 tramite Frontiers Music Srl. Ora, l'etichetta è lieta di annunciare il secondo album dei due, "Something Wicked This Way Comes", il 20 gennaio 2023. Un nuovo singolo e video, "The Tidal Wave", è uscito in questi giorni.

Gli Skid sono stati, lo sono tuttora e lo saranno sempre una delle band più “cazzute” del panorama street metal (e non solo!!!), da sempre idolatrati da milioni di fans e autori di veri masterpiece con alla voce il celeberrimo frontman Sebastian Bach. Ma, nonostante split, divorzi, breck e mille vicissitudini che hanno costretto il combo del New Jersey a stop anche prolungati, non sono mai, e preciso MAI, stati fautori di albums scialbi o privi di mordente. Ricordiamo l'era del compianto Solinger, dove i nostri avevano strizzato l'occhio -anche- ad un certo alternative rock, su tutti l'album “ThickSkin” del 2003, sempre e comunque un full lenght di elevata caratura e ricco di rabbia e potenza. Adesso, era dal 2006 che i nostri non pubblicavano un album -se escludiamo qualche Ep e raccolta- e quindi questo fiammante e nuovo “The Gang's All Here” con alla voce il -nuovo- singer Erik Grönwall (ex H.E.A.T) irrompe in tutta la sua veemenza, in tutta la sua potenza heavy, la furia punk e l'attitudine street metal che sembra ritornata ai livelli di “Slave To The Grind” e ci colpisce diretti come un pugno di un peso massimo sul ring! Credo proprio, senza paura di sbilanciarmi, che Bolan e soci non avrebbero potuto fare di meglio e il disco in questione si candida assolutamente tra i top 10 album finora ascoltati per questo 2022. Il disco parte con un autentico calcio nelle palle dal titolo “Hell Or High Water” e prosegue con l'agguerrita title track in purissimo e travolgente street metal style. “Not Dead Yet” non fa prigionieri, un up tempo veloce e al vetriolo dove -sempre- svetta la verve e l'ugola del bravo vocalist; una sorta di Seb Bach “incazzato” con il “piglio” del bravo (Rip) Solinger ma, attenzione, con una propria originalità. Arriva la più cadenzata “Time Bomb” brano moooolto street rock che fa posto quindi alla successiva “Resurrected” dove si rialza il ritmo. Comunque voglio precisare che il ritmo è in definitiva sempre altissimo, il disco suona come un treno merci lanciato a mille km all'ora! “Nowhere Fast” non fa che rimarcare quanto appena scritto mentre l'hard rock venato di street rock/glamour fa capolino nella pulsante e ruffiana “When The Lights Come On”. Pezzo assolutamente da incorniciare! Siamo al momento del singolo uscito per “lanciare” il disco, “Tear It Down”, altro pezzo che vi farà ballare nella vostra stanzetta di casa facendo “hair guitar” con la racchetta da tennis! Siamo quasi alla fine ed ecco la ballad “October’s Song”, brano sicuramente valido anche se troppo lungo (oltre sette minuti) che non riesce però a conquistarmi del tutto...ma tanté... paragonato ai singoli – ballad del passato non regge il confronto. E come potrebbe finire un album così? Ma ovvio, con un altro veloce up tempo granitico e roccioso com'è “World’s On Fire“. Fine. Non ho altro da aggiungere se non un plauso alla sempreverde vena artistica della band, al lodevole guitar work che cesella riff assassini ed alla portentosa sezione ritmica. Gli Skid Row sono ancora in giro e il loro trono credo proprio sia ben lontano dall'essere usurpato. Acquisto obbligato!

Skid were, still are and always will be one of the most "badass" bands of the street metal scene (and not only !!!), always idolized by millions of fans and authors of real masterpieces with the famous frontman on the voice Sebastian Bach. But, despite splits, divorces, brecks and a thousand vicissitudes that have forced the New Jersey combo to even prolonged stops, they have never, and precise NEVER, been proponents of dull or bite-free albums. We remember the era of the late Solinger, where our people had winked - even - at a certain alternative rock, above all the album "ThickSkin" of 2003, always and in any case a full length of high caliber and full of anger and power. Now, it was since 2006 that ours hadn't released an album - if we exclude some EPs and collections - and therefore this brand new "The Gang's All Here" with the voice of the -new- singer Erik Grönwall (ex H.E.A.T) bursts into the whole his vehemence, in all his heavy power, punk fury and street metal attitude that seems to have returned to the levels of “Slave To The Grind” and hits us straight like a heavyweight punch in the ring! I really believe, without fear of unbalancing myself, that Bolan and his associates could not have done better and the record in question is absolutely a candidate among the top 10 albums listened to so far for this 2022. The record starts with an authentic kick in the balls entitled “Hell Or High Water ”and continues with the fierce title track in pure and overwhelming street metal style. “Not Dead Yet” takes no prisoners, a fast and vitriolic up tempo where -always- the verve and uvula of the good vocalist stands out; a sort of Seb Bach "pissed" with the "look" of the good (Rip) Solinger but, beware, with his own originality. Here comes the more rhythmic "Time Bomb" street rock soooooo song which then makes way for the next "Resurrected" where the rhythm picks up. However, I want to clarify that the pace is ultimately always very high, the disc sounds like a freight train launched at a thousand km per hour! "Nowhere Fast" does nothing but remark what has just been written while hard rock tinged with street rock / glamor peeks out in the pulsating and pandering "When The Lights Come On". Absolutely worth framing piece! We are at the moment of the single released to "launch" the disc, "Tear It Down", another song that will make you dance in your little room at home making "hair guitar" with the tennis recchetta! We are almost at the end and here is the ballad "October's Song", a song that is certainly valid even if too long (over seven minutes) which, however, does not manage to conquer me completely ... but anyway ... compared to the singles - ballad of the past does not hold up the comparison. And how could an album like this end? But of course, with another fast, granite and rocky up tempo like "World's On Fire". End. I have nothing else to add but applause to the evergreen artistic vein of the band, to the commendable guitar work that chisels killer riffs and to the prodigious rhythm section. Skid Row are still around and I think their throne is far from being usurped. Purchase required!
