La prima domanda è molto semplice. Come vi siete conosciuti e come è nata l'idea di realizzare questo disco, dal momento che venite tutti da background musicali diversi e avete suonato con così tanti artisti?

Will e io ci siamo conosciuti mentre eravamo in tour con Vasco Rossi nel 2014. Ci siamo subito trovati d'accordo musicalmente e personalmente e volevamo formare una band insieme. Alla fine abbiamo trovato Todd Kerns e sapevamo che era il pezzo perfetto per completare il puzzle.

Hai puntato su un rock potente, efficace, sicuramente con un arrangiamento moderno ma granitico e dirompente... sei d'accordo?

Grazie! Siamo rimasti fedeli a ciò che volevamo fare, ovvero realizzare un disco potente con molta emozione e creatività rimanendo fedeli alla classica forma di arte rock. Sempre ad altissima energia.

Chi è il compositore principale di “Heroes...”?

La stragrande maggioranza dell'album l'abbiamo composta tutti insieme come band, Will, Todd e io. Abbiamo anche collaborato con Niccolò Bolchi su 3 grandi canzoni. E Jordan, Brett e Jeff hanno contribuito alla causa...

Com'è stato il processo di registrazione, creazione e arrangiamento di questo album? C'è qualcosa in particolare che vuoi elencarci?

Fondamentalmente abbiamo dovuto farlo a lunga distanza a causa della pandemia. Ora puoi farlo in modo relativamente semplice creando tracce e inviandole su Internet mentre ognuno aggiunge le proprie parti. Prestando sempre particolare attenzione a non perdere la spontaneità. Pensiamo di aver fatto molto bene in questo... mantenendo la sensazione naturale e l'energia per tutto il tempo.

Pensi che sia un progetto parallelo o pensi che ci sarà un sequel come band e quindi altri lavori?

Oh, è una band! Ma dovremo vedere quanti tour mondiali potremo fare. Sicuramente vogliamo continuare a suonare e registrare come gruppo.

Quando crei una canzone, qual è la caratteristica principale da cui parti? E perché?

Ci sono modi diversi... di solito comincio con un riff di chitarra e da lì costruisco qualcosa. Successivamente trovare la melodia e talvolta il primo testo allo stesso tempo. Poi il resto viene poco alla volta. Quando qualcuno nella band ha un'idea, la mandiamo a tutti noi e decidiamo se aggiungerla o meno, e come

Potresti descrivere questo disco con l'aiuto di un solo aggettivo e dirci perché?

Pieno di sentimento. Nel modo in cui mettiamo le nostre anime nello scrivere, suonare e registrare questo album.

Attualmente il black metal, il grind e il symphonic death metal sono molto popolari. Cosa ne pensi di questi generi? Pensi ci sia ancora spazio per il sano rock'n'roll o i tempi sono cambiati ormai?

C'è sempre spazio per il tiramisù e quindi c'è sempre spazio per il ROCK!

Stef, sei davvero un eccellente chitarrista. Hai suonato con giganti come Alice Cooper, Y&T, Huey Lewis & The News e il nostro Vasco Rossi (solo per citarne alcuni). Puoi raccontarmi com'è stato suonare con loro e magari spiegarci il diverso approccio musicale di un chitarrista nel suonare le canzoni di queste band con stili diversi?

Grazie sei molto gentile. Ogni artista con cui ho lavorato ha uno stile diverso quindi devi adattarti e studiare per poter aggiungere i colori giusti a ogni band. Detto questo, ho sempre mantenuto il mio stile di suonare in ogni band con cui ho suonato. Penso che questa sia la chiave…. mantenere la propria personalità in ogni situazione.

Tecnicamente parlando: quale chitarra, amplificatori ed effetti usi di più?

Ho usato la mia Fender Stratocaster del 1991, la mia Les Paul Custom, una SG, e un paio di altre Stratocaster, 2 Marshall JCM 900, modificate da Massimo Mantovani di M-Tech Audio su Moderna Italia. Ho anche una pedaliera costruita e progettata da Massimo alla M-Tech. Ho un MXR Reverb e Dunlop Super Badass Distortion. Strymon Mobius e Timline Delay, Boss Compressor e un paio di altre cose.

Sono un fan dei grandi chitarristi quindi volevo chiederti se c'è qualcuno che ti ha ispirato quando hai iniziato da giovane e, attualmente, vorrei sapere quali sono i chitarristi che apprezzi di più e perché.... ..

Prima mio padre, che suonava Dylan e i Beatles per la famiglia. Poi BB King. Dopo essermi innamorato di Hendrix, Zeppelin e The Allman Brothers ho scoperto Jeff Beck e la mia vita è cambiata per sempre. Poi Pat Metheny ha avuto un impatto enorme e infatti puoi sentire la sua influenza sul mio modo di suonare anche nelle canzoni hard rock che suono.

ok Stef.....a proposito di tour, ne farai uno presto immagino per promuovere il disco? Verrai da noi in Italia?

The first question is very simple. How did you meet and how did the idea of making this record come about, since you all come from different musical backgrounds and have played with so many artists.

Will and I met while on tour with Vasco Rossi in 2014. We immediately hit it off musically and personally and wanted to form a band together. We finally found Todd Kerns and knew that he was the perfect piece to finish the puzzle.

You have bet on a powerful, effective rock, certainly with a modern but granite and disruptive arrangement...do you agree?
Thank you! We have stayed true to what we wanted to do, which was make a powerful record with lot’s of emotion and creativity while staying true to the classic rock art form. Always with super high energy.

Who is the main composer of “Heroes...”?

The vast majority of the album we all composed together as a band, Will, Todd, and myself. We also collaborated with Niccolò Bolchi on 3 great songs. And, Jordan, Brett and Jeff contributed to the cause.

How was the process of recording, creating and arranging this album? Is there anything in particular you want to list us?

Basically we had to do it long distance because of the pandemic. Now you can do it relatively easily by creating tracks and sending them over the internet while everyone adds their own parts. Always paying special attention to not lose the spontaneity. We think we did very well at that… keeping the natural feel and energy going throughout.

Do you think it's a side project or do you think there will be a sequel as a band and therefore other works?

Oh, it’s a band! But we will have to see how much worldwide touring we can do. We definitely want to keep playing and recording as a group.

6. When you create a song, what is the main feature you start from? And why?
There are different ways… usually I start with a guitar riff, and build something from there. Next finding the melody and sometimes the first lyric at the same time. Then the rest comes bit by bit. When someone in the band has an idea, we send it out to all of us and we decide whether to add it or not, and how

Could you describe this record with the help of just one adjective and tell us why?
Soulful. In the way that we put our souls into the writing, playing, and recording this album

Currently black metal, grind and symphonic death metal are very popular. What do you think of these genres? Do you think there is still room for healthy rock'n'roll or have times changed by now?
There’s always room for tiramisu and so there’s always room for ROCK

Stef, you are truly an excellent guitarist. You have played with giants such as Alice Cooper, Y&T, Huey Lewis & The News and our own Vasco Rossi (just to name a few). Can you tell me how it was playing with them and maybe explain the different musical approach of a guitarist in playing the songs of these bands with different styles?
Thank you very kindly for that. Each artist that I have worked with has a different style so you need to adapt and study to be able to add the right colours to each band. That being said, I have always kept my style of playing in every band that I’ve played with. I think that’s the key…. keeping your own personality in any situation.

Technically speaking: which guitar, amps and effects do you use the most?

I used my Fender Strat from 1991, My Les Paul Custom, an SG, and a couple other Strats, 2 Marshall JCM 900s, modified by Massimo Mantovani at M-Tech Audio on Moderna Italy. I have a pedal board also constructed and designed by Massimo at M-Tech. I have an MXR Reverb and Dunlop Super Badass Distortion. Strymon Mobius and Timline Delay, Boss Compressor and a couple other things.

11. I am a fan of great guitarists so I wanted to ask you if there is anyone who inspired you when you started as a young man and, currently, I would like to know which are the guitar players you most appreciate and why......
First my father, who played Dylan and Beatles for the family. Then BB King. After falling in Love with Hendrix, Zeppelin and The Allman Brothers I discovered Jeff Beck and my life changed forever. Then Pat Metheny has had a huge impact and in fact you can hear his influence on my playing even in hard rock songs that I play

Dalla ribellione dei marinai nel film (La corazzata Potëmkin) nasce e prende forma l'ispirazione per il nuovo brano Instrumental - Live dei Cage dal titolo Potëmkin registrato in presa diretta da Holly Secco e masterizzato da Luca Giampietri completando il progetto Live iniziato l'anno scorso con l'uscita della Suite Metal Prog Battleship. L’uscita in anteprima è stata fissata su Spotify per il 26 Gennaio  e dal 3 Febbraio il brano sarà disponibile su tutte le altre piattaforme digitali. L'omaggio al film (1925) del maestro Sergej Michajlovic Ejzenstein viene tradotto dalla band attraverso una trasposizione musicale dal carattere molto forte, strumentale costruito sopra i potenti riff di chitarra di Andrea Mignani e le risposte ipnotiche dei synth di Damiano Tacchini, il tutto si estende in una metrica molto incalzante suddivisa in sette ottavi. La band ha voluto dividere in cinque parti la composizione come i cinque atti che suddividono l'opera del regista, immergendosi così nella storia e nei fatti che hanno dato vita a una delle pellicole che hanno fatto la storia del cinema moderno. Completano la band Andrea Griselli (batteria), Giulia Curti (voce e percussioni), Luca Giampietri ( basso e voce ). I CAGE sono un gruppo toscoligure della scena progressive italiana.
Il  cambio di alcuni componenti nel corso degli ultimi anni hanno reso lo stile della band più vicino all’Hard Rock Melodico pur mantenendo l’attitudine Prog soprattutto nell’approccio allo strumento sempre molto tecnico.

Fa bene al cuore ascoltare album di questa caratura; sovente la gente vocifera che il rock è morto, che non abbia più nulla da dire... tutt'altro, il rock è vivo e vegeto solo che, attenzione, bisogna sapere dove trovarlo e cosa ascoltare! La Frontiers, da label sempre attenta qual'è, non si è lasciata sfuggire questa specie di all stars band di tre elementi che ha partorito un debut di granitico rock duro, sanguigno, diretto, al tempo stesso graffiante e imponente nell'ammantare l'ascoltatore. Nemmeno quaranta minuti, quindi song molto dirette e non mega suite o brani interminabili; i tre “Heroes and Monsters” hanno capito bene quel che serve per miscelare un cocktail esplosivo e ogni singola traccia di questo omonimo debut è carica come un petardo a capodanno. Stef Burns (Vasco Rossi, Alice Cooper, Sheila E., Berlin, Huey Lewis & The News, Y&T and more), Todd Kerns (polistrumentista, cantante, cantautore, produttore, bassista e cantante di supporto in Slash con Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators e frontman della band canadese The Age Of Electric), Will Hunt (Evanescence e poi Dark New Day, Black Label Society, Staind, Vasco Rossi, Vince Neil, Tommy Lee, Slaughter and more). Vi basta come biglietto da visita? Da tre elementi di questo calibro cosa potevamo aspettarci? Di sicuro un eccellente interpretazione vocale, Todd è un portento ed ha una timbrica unica, originale e “ficcante”, Stef è un autentico guitar hero e il drummer Will contribuisce a creare un pulsante muro ritmico tecnicamente ineccepibile ed emotivamente superlativo. Il connubio perfetto. E lo dimostrano autentiche killer song quali la più “alternativa” e satura “I Knew You Were The Devil“ e l'opener “Locked and Loaded” che rimembrano qualcosa dei Sixx A:M, l'ACDCiana “Break Me (I’m Yours)” oppure il rock vigoroso di “Raw Power” ma, attenzione, se ascoltate le più lente come la semi ballad “Angels Never Sleep “ verrete circondati da un sound elettrico e armonico, che parte lento per poi evolvere in partiture più hard sempre e comunque abbellite dai pregevoli solos del fantastico axe man Burns (da segnalare quello nel finale di “Raw Power”...nda). Stesso dicasi per “Don’t Tell Me I’m Wrong “ song melodica ma da non definirsi un lento che mi ricorda i gloriosi Roxanne. Ah...c'è anche un'ottima cover del classico di sempre “Set Me Free” che ci mostra una versione pompata degli Sweet. Chiude il disco la canzone forse più lenta della tracklist “And You’ll Remain“ che mette in risalto la sempre bella voce di Todd e, comunque, un ottimo drums work. Un album assolutamente da non perdere

It's good for the heart to hear albums of this caliber; often people talk that rock is dead, that it has nothing more to say... far from it, rock is alive and well just that, be careful, you need to know where to find it and what to listen to! Frontiers, always attentive label as it is, did not miss this sort of all stars band of three elements that gave birth to a debut of granite hard rock, sanguine, direct, at the same time biting and imposing in cloaking the listener. Not even forty minutes, so very direct songs and not mega suites or endless songs; the three "Heroes and Monsters" have understood well what it takes to mix an explosive cocktail and every single track of this homonymous debut is charged like a firecracker on New Year's Eve. Stef Burns (Vasco Rossi, Alice Cooper, Sheila E., Berlin, Huey Lewis & The News, Y&T and more), Todd Kerns (multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, producer, bassist and backing vocalist on Slash with Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators and frontman of the Canadian band The Age Of Electric), Will Hunt (Evanescence and then Dark New Day, Black Label Society, Staind, Vasco Rossi, Vince Neil, Tommy Lee, Slaughter and more). Is that enough for you as a business card? What could we expect from three elements of this caliber? Certainly an excellent vocal interpretation, Todd is a marvel and has a unique, original and "punching" timbre, Stef is an authentic guitar hero and drummer Will helps to create a technically flawless and emotionally superlative pulsating rhythmic wall. The perfect combination. And this is demonstrated by authentic killer songs such as the more “alternative” and saturated “I Knew You Were The Devil“ and the opener “Locked and Loaded” which recall something of Sixx A:M, “Break Me (I'm Yours)" that remember AcDc or the vigorous rock of "Raw Power" but, be careful, if you listen to the slower ones like the semi-ballad "Angels Never Sleep" you will be surrounded by an electric and harmonic sound, which starts slowly and then evolves into harder scores and in any case embellished by the valuable solos of the fantastic ax man Burns (the one at the end of "Raw Power"...nda). The same goes for "Don't Tell Me I'm Wrong" melodic song but not to be defined as a slow song that reminds me of the glorious Roxanne. Ah...there's also a great cover of the all time classic "Set Me Free" which shows us a pumped up version of the Sweet. The album closes with perhaps the slowest song on the tracklist "And You'll Remain" which highlights Todd's always beautiful voice and, in any case, an excellent drums work. An album not to be missed

La band, una collaborazione tra il chitarrista George Lynch (Lynch Mob, The End Machine, ex-Dokken) e il programmatore e polistrumentista Joe Haze iniziata nel 2011 e dal 2020 include anche l'artista/cantante di Los Angeles Devix Szell, pubblica l'album di debutto, "Machine And Bone" il 10 marzo 2023. Un nuovo singolo e video per il brano "Got What You Wanted" sono usciti in questi giorni.

Dopo il potente primo brano "The Nukalevee", estratto dal nuovo album "Warlocks Grim & Withered Hags", HELLRIPPER torna con un secondo assaggio di ciò che accadrà nel nuovo album con il brano che ha dato il nome all’album intero. Ispirato naturalmente al folklore scozzese, il brano è un'altra dimostrazione di come McBain continui a spingere il suo sound in avanti, senza mai perdere l'intensità infernale che lo contraddistingue. Come sempre, il processo di scrittura e registrazione è stato portato avanti dallo stesso James McBain, con alcuni ospiti che hanno offerto il loro contributo sotto forma di voci e parti strumentali aggiuntive. Le registrazioni si sono svolte tra marzo 2021 e giugno 2022 e l'album è stato mixato da McBain e masterizzato da Damian Herring presso i Subterranean Watchtower Studios. L'artwork, adeguatamente sinistro e minaccioso, è stato realizzato da Adam Burke/Nightjar Illustration. Warlocks Grim & Withered Hags uscirà in CD, LP, LP in vinile colorato verde in edizione limitata sul sito della band, LP in vinile color oro in edizione limitata, cassetta e in digitale.
