"Radiance" è il sesto album in studio dei "The Dead Daisies" e il secondo con le leggende del rock Dough Aldrich (ex Rainbow, Whitesnake, Dio, House of Lord e altri) alla chitarra e Glenn Hughes (ex Deep Purple, Black Sabbath e altro) al basso. L'attuale formazione è completata da David Lowy (fondatore della band, chitarre) e Brian Tichy alla batteria. L'album si presenta in uno stile sorprendentemente fresco con buone melodie, parti soliste da vera rockstar da parte di Doug e un ottimo lavoro di basso di Glenn. Le canzoni sono ben arrangiate e contengono molte sorprese positive. Già l'opener "Face Your Fear" con la sua fantastica introduzione di chitarra e il basso pulsante ti fa venire adrenalina in corpo e il suo riff principale ha una buona somiglianza con '16th Century Greensleeves' dei Rainbow. La canzone è completata da un potente assolo ed è sicuramente uno dei momenti salienti dell'album. Poiché la maggior parte delle tracce è stata scritta durante il lockdown del 2020, i testi sono un pò cupi, ma la musica si sposa davvero bene. Alcune -poche- canzoni sono leggermente più “sperimentali” e usano un'accordatura drop (basta ascoltare la title track 'Radiance' con il suo ritmo strano) ma indubbiamente si tratta di un notevole songwriting. Altre tracce come "Hypnotize Yourself" o "Courageous" presentano parti di chitarra in stile AC/DC e interessanti effetti di percussione del batterista Tichy come triangolo e tamburello. Spesso sentirete il “ringhio” del basso di Glenn all'inizio o alla fine di una canzone - davvero fantastico – cosa che ci mostra quanto piacere abbiano avuto questi ragazzi durante la registrazione a Los Angeles. L'album si chiude con la canzone "Roll on", semplice ma molto ben presentata, con una chitarra acustica e un violino. I miei brani preferiti dell'album sono "Courageous" e “Shine On”, una canzone rock grassa con qualità da headbanging che è stata già suonata dal vivo al concerto di Milano. Anche 'Not Human' mostrerà tutta la sua bellezza dopo averla ascoltata alcune volte. Per ultimo direi che ci sono molte cose da scoprire in questo fantastico album!

'Radiance' is the 6th studio album of 'The Dead Daisies', and the second one featuring rock legends Dough Aldrich (ex-Rainbow, Whitesnake, Dio, House of Lord, and more) on the guitar and Glenn Hughes (ex-Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, and more) on the Bass. The current line up is completed by David Lowy (band founder, guitars) and Brian Tichy on the drums. The album comes in a surprisingly fresh style with good melodies, 100% rock star leads (solos) by Doug and and great bass work from Glenn. Songs are well arranged and contain a lot of positive surprises. Already the opener 'Face Your Fear' with its very cool chopped guitar intro and the growling bass makes you hungry for more. Its main riff has a good resemblance on Rainbow's '16th Century Greensleeves'. The song is rounded up with a powerful solo and definitly one of the album's highlights. Since most of the tracks were written during the lockdown of 2020, the lyrics are a bit dark, but the music really goes well with it. Few songs are a bit more experimental and use a drop tuning (just listen to the title track 'Radiance' with it's odd rhythm), this is surely remarkable songwriting. Other tracks like 'Hypnotize Yourself' or 'Courageous' are featuring AC/DC like guitar parts as well as interesting percussion effects from Drummer Tichy like triangle and tambourine. And many times you will hear Glenn's bass growling at the begin or the end of a song - really cool, and it shows how much pleasure these guys must have had during recording in LA. The album closes with the simple, but very well presented song "Roll on", featuring an acoustic guitar and a violin. My personal favorites on the album are 'Courageous' and Shine On, a fat rock song with headbanging quality, which was already played live on the concert in Milano. Also 'Not human' will show all its beauty after listening to it a few times. Again, there are many things to discover on this great album!
