Lo aspettavo con ansia. Devo ammettere che ho scoperto questa fantastica artista e guitar woman “troppo tardi”, ma c'è sempre tempo per rimediare. L'ho conosciuta bene con l'eccellente penultimo album in studio “O” del 2020 ed ho avuto modo qualche mese fa di farle una bella intervista (potete leggerla nella nostra sezione journalist-interview del sito, nda) nella quale ci ha raccontato un po' la sua storia e il suo modo di essere musicista. Tra l'altro era il periodo del “Live” album uscito questa estate (consigliatissimo, leggetevi la recensione nella sezione review, nda) ma tutto era pronto per aspettarla al varco con questo nuovo e fiammante “Rock Candy”. E non ha deluso le aspettative, anzi. Un album che miscela rock, hard, blues, pop e alternative rock in un connubio di suoni eccezionali e una maestria nel guitar sound da vera axe man!!!! D'altronde tutti conoscerete il suo palmares, ed essere stata chitarrista di Michael Jackson, Santana, Prince, Eric Clapton (tanto per fare qualche “semplice“ nomignolo, nda) la dice lunga sulle capacità della nostra biondissima chitarrista. L'album parte bene con un intro strumentale 'Illuminate (part I)', eterea nel suo incedere e coinvolgente che ci prepara alla hit 'Light It Up', autentica killer song, classico anthem rock con chitarra pulsante e ritmo coinvolgente. Vero e proprio must del disco. Si prosegue con la più leggera 'Fire Together' che strizza l'occhio a certo pop rock da classifica e lo fa con gran classe per condurci poi alla lenta ' Where Did Your Heart Go' ben arrangiata e con il giusto pathos. Attenzione però, la signorina Panagaris non ha rallentato il ritmo anzi, con 'Red Light' sputa fuori un rock corposo e veloce che alterna momenti più pacati a sfuriate quasi “punk”. Arriva il momento dell'alternative sound di 'Void'; una song basata su un guitar work saturo e compresso che si contrappone sempre alla suadente voce della nostra musicista. Ottimo il lavoro della band, su tutti Jacob Bunton (multi strumentista e anche producer del disco, nda) che accompagna i sempre pregiati e ficcanti solos di Orianthi e crea il giusto mood per tutto l'album. Si ritorna verso un sempre lodevole pop rock con 'Burning' per poi cullarci nell'altra ballad acustica 'Living Is Like Dying Without You'. Ma ancora l'eclettica Orianthi non vuole cedere il passo a troppa melodia e si torna a rockare con l'aggressiva 'Witches & The Devil', brano cadenzato e basato su un guitar sound di prim'ordine. Siamo alla penultima traccia, 'Getting To Me', che si fregia di un rock a tratti radiofonico ma con un riffing sicuramente 'hard'. Chiude questo album la “reprise” dell'intro, 'Illuminate (part II) ovviamente strumentale che mette in risalto le capacità stilistiche e tecniche della nostra artista. Onestamente non trovo un solo difetto in questo “Rock Candy” e lo candido tranquillamente tra le migliori uscite di questo 2022. Disco da avere assolutamente!!!

I was looking forward to it. I must admit that I discovered this fantastic artist and guitar woman "too late", but there is always time to fix it. I met her well with the excellent penultimate studio album "O" of 2020 and a few months ago I had the opportunity to give her a nice interview (you can read it in our journalist-interview section of the site, editor's note) in which she told us a little about his history and his way of being a musician. Among other things, it was the period of her "Live" album released this summer (highly recommended, read the review in the review section, editor's note) but everything was ready to wait for her with this brand new "Rock Candy". And she did not disappoint expectations, quite the contrary. An album that mixes rock, hard, blues, pop and alternative rock in a combination of exceptional sounds and a mastery in the guitar sound of a true ax man !!!! On the other hand, you will all know her palmares, and having been the guitarist of Michael Jackson, Santana, Prince, Eric Clapton (just to name a few "simple" nicknames, ed.) Says a lot about the skills of our blonde guitarist. The album starts well with an instrumental intro 'Illuminate (part I)', ethereal in its gait and engaging that prepares us for the hit 'Light It Up', authentic killer song, classic anthem rock with pulsating guitar and engaging rhythm. Real must of the disc. It continues with the lighter 'Fire Together' which winks at some pop rock from the charts and does it with great class to then lead us to the slow 'Where Did Your Heart Go' well arranged and with the right pathos. But be careful, Miss Panagaris did not slow down the pace indeed, with 'Red Light' she spits out a full-bodied and fast rock that alternates more calm moments with almost “punk” outbursts. Here comes the time for the alternative sound of 'Void'; a song based on a saturated and compressed guitar work that is always opposed to the persuasive voice of our musician. Excellent work by the band, above all Jacob Bunton (multi instrumentalist and also producer of the album, ed.) Who accompanies the always precious and insightful solos of Orianthi and creates the right mood for the whole album. We return to an always praiseworthy pop rock with 'Burning' and then lull us into the other acoustic ballad 'Living Is Like Dying Without You'. But still the eclectic Orianthi does not want to give way to too much melody and returns to rock with the aggressive 'Witches & The Devil', a rhythmic song based on a first-rate guitar sound. We are on the penultimate track, 'Getting To Me', which boasts a radio rock at times but with a definitely 'hard' riffing. This album closes with the “reprise” of the intro, 'Illuminate (part II) obviously instrumental which highlights the stylistic and technical skills of our artist. Honestly, I can't find a single flaw in this “Rock Candy” and I calmly nominate it among the best releases of this 2022. Disc to have absolutely !!!
