Carissimi tutti, colgo l'occasione da parte mia e da tutto lo staff del Cathouse, per augurarvi un felice 2024, ricco di grandi soddisfazioni personali e.... tanta buona musica. E, come tutti gli anni, ecco il commento del sottoscritto con la lista dei 10 TOP ALBUM del 2023. Sono veramente felice che, tra gli artisti menzionati, compaiano ai primi posti anche nostri illustri connazionali DELIRIO AND THE PHANTOMS e GABRIELE BELLINI, segno che l'italietta non sempre sta a guardare ma, con la maestria di navigati ed eccezionali artisti, dà il suo apporto qualitativo al nostro amato genere. Inoltre segnalerei i bravissimi Fifth Note, band proveniente da un paese - l'India - che fino a qualche anno fa col rock non aveva mai avuto molte relazioni ed ora ci partorisce questo combo capace di spodestare tanti colleghi nord europei o americani. Tutte ottime sorprese e buoni segnali per il futuro!

Ciao Cassidy sono Roby Comanducci, responsabile e fondatore del Cathouse Italy RnR Project, organizzazione dedita alla rivitalizzazione del rock'n'roll nella nostra nazione dal lontano 1997. E' un piacere poterti fare qualche domanda.

Ciao Roby. Molto piacere di conoscerti!!

Inizierei chiedendoti di parlare un po' di te. Sei molto giovane ma sei una vera rocker; provieni da una terra che ha pèartorito celebrità quali AcDc e so che hai già fatto diverse esperienze in musica, raccopntami di te per presentarti ai fans italiani?!

Certamente Roby. Mi chiamo Cassidy Paris e vengo da Melbourne, Australia. Sono cresciuta con la musica rock. Mio padre Steve Janevski mi ha allevato con una dieta a base di musica rock. È il chitarrista della band heavy metal australiana Wicked Smile. Mi ha fatto conoscere grandi artisti come Pat Benatar, Heart, Van Halen, Europe, Dokken, Skid Row, ecc. Papà mi ha insegnato a suonare la chitarra quando avevo sette anni e ho iniziato a prendere lezioni di canto all'età di undici anni. Ma la cosa più importante che mi ha insegnato è apprezzare l'importanza delle buone canzoni, indipendentemente dal genere. Mi ha sempre incoraggiata a scrivere le mie canzoni. Sarò per sempre grata per questo.

questo nuovo full lenght album ( del quale puoi leggere la nostra recensione nll'apposita sezione review del nostro website) è veramente un ottimo debut album. Raccontami come è nato, del processo di composizione e songwriting e di cosa ti aspetti come risposta di pubblico.

Significa tantissimo per me. Grazie mille. Certamente non è successo dall’oggi al domani. Ho iniziato a registrare demo dall'età di dodici anni. Ho anche pubblicato due ep (ora esauriti). Inizialmente ho iniziato a scrivere insieme a persone come mio padre, Paul Laine e alcuni altri amici. Questo mi ha aiutato a comprendere i fondamenti della scrittura di canzoni. Ad esempio, la struttura della canzone, la melodia, gli hook ecc. Con il tempo sono migliorata e ora sono nella fase in cui, anche se amo scrivere con altre persone, penso anche di poter completare le canzoni da sola. Per quanto riguarda le mie aspettative, in primo luogo, voglio accontentare me stessa. Spesso mi piace testare le canzoni su strada suonandole dal vivo. Le belle canzoni risaltano sempre. Alcune canzoni devono essere perfezionate e alcune canzoni non ce la fanno. In secondo luogo, cerco di scrivere canzoni con uno scopo. I testi sono molto importanti per me. Cerco di usare il songwriting come un diario. Questo album è il mio diario personale, un riflesso della mia vita negli ultimi sei anni.

Ho visto che nell'album c'è la presenza del grande Paul Laine (ex Danger Danger, The Defiants ), che tipo d'aiuto ti ha dato? So che ti sta seguendo musicalmente già da tempo....

Mio padre suonava la chitarra nella band di Paul Laine e quando era in tournée in Australia rimaneva a casa nostra. Cantava spesso canzoni con me. Mio padre ha un video di Paul che cantava canzoni con me quando avevo dodici anni. Mi ha sempre incoraggiato e guidato per quanto riguarda la scrittura delle canzoni e la voce. Paul mi ha anche aiutato a capire l'importanza di ottenere la giusta interpretazione e di cantare con emozione. “New Sensation” presenta alcune collaborazioni - canzoni con Paolo. Alcuni di questi includono “Song For The Broken Hearted”, “Like I Never Loved You” e “Stand”.

Parlando di “New Sensation” credi che possa convincere col suo sound molti giovani ad intraprendere il cammino del rock innamorandosi di questa fantastica musica e di questo nostro fantastico mondo?

Lo spero. Ho sempre detto che, anche se scrivo canzoni innanzitutto per me, cerco anche di ispirare i ragazzi più giovani a prendere in mano una chitarra anziché un telefono smartphone! Dobbiamo tornare indietro ripsetto all'attuale realtà. Conosco alcune persone che trascorrono gran parte del giorno e della notte sui loro telefonini. È piuttosto spaventoso!

Qual è l'aspetto più importante, la caratteristica basilare di questo album di debutto?

Questo album è come il mio diario personale. La maggior parte delle canzoni sono resoconti dettagliati di ciò che ho passato. Ad esempio, le canzoni “Stand” parlano del bullismo, “Searching For A Hero” parla di avere fede, “Song For The Broken Hearted” parla di una rottura e “Danger” parla di una cattiva scelta di relazione o realtà.

Una cosa che mi fa veramente piacere è constatare che, nonostante la tua giovane età, hai preferito seguire il classico soun rock e hard rock invece che andare nella direzione più alternativa e nu metal che tanto va diu moda in questi anni. E' stata una scelta ragionata o naturale?

Sono cresciuta con il rock classico. È lo stile musicale che mi è sempre piaciuto. Da bambina andavo a letto guardando i video dei miei artisti rock preferiti, ad esempio Pat Benatar, Heart, KISS, Halestorm, Avril Lavigne, Pink e Paramore. Molti dei miei amici a scuola mi spingevano a suonare roba nu-metal, ma semplicemente non ero io. Detto questo, penso di essere un artista ponte tra il rock classico del passato e quello nuovo. Mi piace pensare che sto dando la mia interpretazione della musica che mi ha influenzato. Adoro la musica rock. È quello che faccio e cercare di portarla sempre avanti.

se non erro, ascoltando la bella semi ballad “Stand” cerchi di trasmettere un messaggio sul “farsi valere”. Ho ragione? Cosa sta alla base di questo songwriting, qual'è la tua ideologia di base come artista e come persona?

Ho avuto momenti difficili al liceo. Alcuni ragazzi mi rendevano difficile il fatto di essere una ragazza rocker. Alcuni ridacchiavano, altri erano gelosi e altri ancora mi davano filo da torcere sui social media. Non è facile essere diversi. Per fortuna, ho avuto i miei genitori e persone come Paul Laine sempre lì pronte a guidarmi in tutto questo. Paul mi ha suggerito di scrivere una canzone su come mi sentivo. Sono così felice che “Stand” sia entrata nel mio album. È una canzone molto personale, ma allo stesso tempo terapeutica.

Sei una female singer ma so che suoni anche la chitarra. Pensi che in futuro potresti sviluppare anche il ruolo di chitarrista o rimarrai sempre e fondamentalmente una vocalist?

Sono una chitarrista ritmica quando suoniamo dal vivo. Non sono un chitarrista solista. Mi piace usare la mia chitarra come strumento per scrivere canzoni. Non ho mai veramente desiderato essere una chitarrista ipertecnica, anche se sarebbe bello (risata...)

Ci sono artisti dai quali hai tratto ispirazione, in senso generale e anche per la stesura di questo album? Quali sono stati i tuoi idoli?

Ho molti idoli. Pat Benatar sarebbe la mia artista preferita, ma mi piacciono anche Sandi Saraya, Lzzy Hale, Kenny Leckremo degli H.E.A.T ed Erik Gronwall degli Skid Row. Ovviamente anch'io adoro queste band. Joan Jett e Lita Ford sono altri due modelli, in particolare per aver aperto la strada alle donne nel rock & roll. Per quanto riguarda l’influenza sulla scrittura, penso che non sia stato qualcosa a cui ho pensato troppo. Le mie influenze traspaiono senza che io pensi alle cose.

C'è invece qualche band attuale che prediligi e credi valga la pena di menzionare?

Mi piace molto la band degli H.E.A.T. Io e la mia band abbiamo avuto la fortuna di supportarli in giro per l'Australia. Erano musicisti davvero fantastici e ci hanno aiutato molto. Durante il nostro recente tour nel Regno Unito abbiamo suonato con una band chiamata Collateral. Sono stati fantastici!

Per ultima domanda vorrei che ti definissi con l'ausilio di un singolo aggettivo come artista e anche come persona spiegandoci il perchè della scelta.

Penso che sia... premurosa. Mi piace provare a trattare le persone nel modo in cui vorrei essere trattata io

Hi Cassidy, I'm Roby Comanducci, manager and founder of the Cathouse Italy RnR Project, an organization dedicated to the revitalization of rock'n'roll in our nation since 1997. It's a pleasure to be able to ask you some questions.

I would start by asking you to talk a little about yourself. You are very young but you are a real rocker; you come from a land that has given birth to celebrities such as AcDc and I know that you have already had various experiences in music, tell me about yourself to introduce yourself to the Italian fans?!

Hi Roby, my name is Cassidy Paris and I’m from Melbourne, Australia. I have grown up on rock music. My father Steve Janevski brought me up on a diet of rock music. He is the guitar player for Australian heavy metal band Wicked Smile. He exposed me to the greats such as Pat Benatar, Heart, Van Halen, Europe, Dokken, Skid Row, etc. Dad taught me how to play guitar when I was seven and I started singing lessons at the age of eleven. But the most important thing he taught me is to appreciate the importance of good songs, no matter the genre. He always encouraged me to write my own songs. I am forever grateful for this.

this new full length album (of which you can read our review in the review section of our website WWW.CATHOUSE.IT) is truly an excellent debut album. Tell me how it came about, the composition and songwriting process and what you expect in terms of public response.

That means the world to me. Thanks so much. It certainly didn’t happen overnight. I started recording demos from the age of twelve. I also released two eps (now sold out). I originally started doing co-writes with people such as my dad, Paul Laine and some other friends. This helped me understand the fundamentals of songwriting. For example, song structure, melody, hooks etc. Over time, I improved and I’m now at the stage where even though I love writing with other people, I also think I can complete songs on my own. As for my expectations, firstly, I want to please myself. I often like to road test songs by playing them live. The good songs always stand out. Some songs need to be refined and some songs don’t make it. Secondly, I try and write songs with a purpose. The lyrics are very important to me. I try and use songwriting as a diary. This album is very much my personal diary, a reflection of my life over the past six years.

I saw that the album features the great Paul Laine (ex Danger Danger, The Defiants), what kind of help did he give you? I know he's been following you musically for some time now....

My dad played guitar in Paul Laine’s band and when he was on tour in Australia he stayed at our house. He’d often sing songs with me. My dad has a video of Paul singing songs with me when I was twelve. He always encouraged me and mentored me in regards to songwriting and vocals. Paul also helped me understand the importance of getting the right take and singing with emotion. New Sensation features a few collab. songs with Paul. Some of these include Song For The Broken Hearted, Like I Never Loved You and Stand.

Speaking of “New Sensation”, do you think that with its sound it can convince many young people to embark on the path of rock, falling in love with this fantastic music and this fantastic world of ours?

I hope so. I’ve always said that even though I write songs for me first and foremost, I also endeavour to inspire kids to pick up a guitar instead of a phone. We need to get back to reality. I know some people that spend most of the day & night on their phones. That’s kinda scary!

What is the most important aspect, the basic characteristic of this debut album?

This album is like my personal diary. Most of the songs are detailed accounts of what I have been through. For instance, the songs Stand is about bullying, Searching For A Hero is about having belief, Song For The Broken Hearted is about a breakup and Danger is about a bad relationship choice.

One thing that really pleases me is to note that, despite your young age, you preferred to follow the classic rock and hard rock sound rather than going in the more alternative and nu metal direction that is so fashionable in recent years. Was it a reasoned or natural choice?

I have grown up with classic rock. It’s the style of music I’ve always liked. As a child, I went to bed watching my videos of my favourite rock artists, eg. Pat Benatar, Heart, KISS, Halestorm, Avril Lavigne, Pink and Paramore. Many of my friends at school would play me nu-metal stuff but it just wasn’t me. Having said that I think I’m a bridging artist of classic rock from yesteryear and the new. I’d like to think I’m putting my own spin on the music that influenced me. I love rock music. It’s what I do.

if I'm not mistaken, by listening to the beautiful semi-ballad "Stand" you try to convey a message about "standing up for yourself". I'm right? What is the basis of this songwriting, what is your basic ideology as an artist and as a person?

I had a hard time in High School. Some kids would give me a hard time for being a rock chick. Some kids snickered, some were jealous and some gave me a hard time on social media. It’s not easy being different. Thankfully, I had my parents and people like Paul Laine always there to coach me through it. Paul suggested we write a song about the way I was feeling. I’m so glad Stand made it on my album. It’s a very personal song, yet therapeutic at the same time.

You are a female singer but I know you also play the guitar. Do you think that in the future you could also develop the role of guitarist or will you always remain fundamentally a vocalist?

I am a rhythm guitar player when we play live. I’m not a lead guitarist. I like to use my guitar as a songwriting tool. I’ve never really wanted to be a shredder, although it would be cool LOL.

Are there any artists from whom you drew inspiration, in a general sense and also for the writing of this album? Who were your idols?

I have lots of idols. Pat Benatar would be my favourite artist, but I also like Sandi Saraya, Lzzy Hale, Kenny Leckremo from H.E.A.T and Erik Gronwall from Skid Row. Obviously, I love these bands too. Joan Jett and Lita Ford are two other role models, particularly for paving the way for women in rock & roll. In regards for influence with the writing, I think it wasn’t something that I thought about too much. My influences kind of shine through without me thinking about things.

Are there any current bands that you prefer and do you think are worth mentioning?

I really like the band H.E.A.T. My band and I were lucky enough to support them around Australia. They were really supportive and fantastic musicians. Whilst on our recent tour of the U.K. we giiged with a band called Collateral. They were great!

For the last question I would like you to define yourself with the help of a single adjective as an artist and also as a person, explaining the reason for your choice.

I think considerate. I like to try and treat people the way I’d like to be treated.

I Gotus hanno pubblicato il nuovo singolo “Without Your Love”, tratto dal loro attesissimo album di debutto omonimo, in uscita il 19 gennaio 2024 by Frontiers Music. Formati nel 2019, i Gotus sono emersi inizialmente come un progetto live concepito dal chitarrista Mandy Meyer e dal batterista Pat Aeby. La band, che vanta membri attuali, passati e dei giganti del rock svizzeri Krokus, Gotthard e Storace, si è riunita nel 2022 dopo una pausa dalle esibizioni dal vivo causata dalla pandemia. La formazione si consolidò con l'aggiunta di Ronnie Romero come frontman, del bassista Tony Castell (ex-Krokus, Crystal Ball) e del tastierista Alain Guy, creando un quintetto dinamico e potente.

Con immenso piacere mi accingo a recensire il ritorno di uno dei migliori act musicali di class metal americano in circolazione, i leggendari Lynch Mob, creatura partorita dalla fervida mente e dalla geniale idea del guitar hero ex Dokken George Lynch. Infatti la band nacque subito dopo la dipartita di George dai Dokken e il debut album storico “Wicked Sensation” targato 1989 è rimasto un autentico punto di riferimento per chiunque ami le sonorità e le mirabolanti talentuosità del maestro della sei corde George. Questo nuovo “Babylon” esce dopo sei anni dall'ultimo full lenght album “The Brotherhood” e, per fortuna, è arrivato a colmare con la sua classe un periodo che si stava facendo un poco “lunghino” con annessa - anche - la paura di vedere svanire un roseo futuro per questo gruppo musicale. Invece Mr. Lynch ha “assoldato” altri nuovi ed eccelsi musicisti quali il cantante Gabriel Colón dotato di un'ugola tagliente e modulabile al tempo stesso, il bassista Jaron Gulino (Tantric, Heavens Edge) e il batterista Jimmy D'anda (ex- Bulletboys). Un connubio di strumentisti che hanno supportato il grande lavoro del boss Lynch nell'ottenere un prodotto valido e assolutamente sopra la media di tante uscite discografiche di questo 2023, Devo ammettere che ho sempre amato il guitar style di Lynch, lo reputo tra i migliori axe men in circolazione da sempre e, onestamente parlando, pur avendo mille collaborazioni (The End Machine, The Banishment, Sweet & Lynch ecc...) il nostro, quando si appresta a tornare alla sua creatura Lynch Mob da sempre il meglio, come se si drogasse di adrenalina, e il risultato sta a dimostrare quanto appena scritto. “Babylon” è un validissimo album di class metal ricco di song pregne di melodia ma anche ficcanti con refrain maliziosi e diretti, una sezione, ritmica pulsante e precisa e un guitar work da antologia, costellato da solos di indubbio interesse per chiunque ami la chitarra e tutto il mondo che le gira intorno. L'intera tracklist presente è caratterizzata da ottime song; si va da momenti più veloci quali l'up tempo di “How You Fall” di chiara impostazione ottantiana a un rock più “anni novanta” quale “Let It Go”. Da ottime class metal songs come “I'm Ready” o l'opener “Erase” alla lunga (quasi otto minuti) titletrack dedita ad un raffinato heavy rock che nella parte finale lascia spazio alla sei corde di Lynch che ci delizia con circa due minuti di solo e chiude con eleganza e grande maestria questo esuberante disco. Se amate la buona musica, le grandi armonie supportate da potenti riff e un guitar work che unisce feeling a tecnica superlativa beh....correte a far vostro “Babylon”!
