Folla enorme.

INTERVIEW: GIRISH AND THE CHRONICLES

by Nikki

Hi guys, here is Nikki from www.cathouse.it. I made a review of your latest album “Hail to the heroes” and I think it is great. First thing that caught my attention is that your music has solid roots in some metal/hard rock classic acts (I think on latest Twisted Sister albums, Skid Row, as well as some metal acts from NWOBHM) yet it does not sound like a mere reprise but an interesting review with a nice energy, powerful lyrics a nice riffs. What would you say on your creative process, did it evolved from the beginning of the band, or it remained the same?

Yes that’s pretty much it. Our music revolves around the classic sound of the ‘80s, style-wise. However, we work really hard and try our best to stay as original as possible when it comes to creating riffs. Even though the songs might remind you of the classics, but most of our music will have end up sounding ‘fresh and new’. We also introduce a lot of unexpected twists and turns on the songs as we don’t like to be monotonous. Yes it is something that has been evolving bit by bit, but with a similar core.

I think the influences on your music are from a wide range of music genre, is it really so? Also, all of you in the band share the same influences or are there some differences?

Yes that’s quite true. We all have the common music we listen to, but at the same time, we also have our own individual choices of musical genres, that is distinctly different from one another and that probably brings in a lot of fresh ideas on the table.

I saw your bass player Yogesh is also your primary music producer. Can you discuss a bit the importance of its work in getting the correct musical feelings from the music that is created?

Yes that has come to be one of the most important factors in the band. With him behind recording, mixing, mastering the opportunities are endless. We can give the songs, the time and attention they deserve. Bringing out a great sound that is distinctly different from most of the bands out there, has helped us a lot in getting more attention. Both I and yogesh are mostly involved in the production, although I’m more into writing and giving ideas. This would have been hard to achieve without him being the main guy behind the sound.

You have some fellow musician collaborating with you for “Rock'n roll fever”. How this cooperation started? Do you have a great personal interaction with other musician; does this influence your music or some part of it?

In 2019, while Chris Adler the was touring India, he did a series of live shows and I got the opportunity to sing for him. Soon, I ended up joining a project he had been working on and was later named Firstborne during the release of our first EP and singles. So I ended up asking him and our guitarist Myrone, if they were interested in being a part of a song which became Rock ‘n Roll fever. The song distinctly has Chris’s signature drumming. Back then, I had also made friends with Rowan Robertson on Facebook. We become friends and been talking about making some music together, which was released under the name ‘Custard Pie’ later on. Since Rowan also had given us a solo in our previous album, the idea of a three way guitar battle between Suraz, Myrone and Rowan seemed like a great idea. Influence wise, not really, although my vocals might have more styles after working with the guys at Firstborne.

Your first album came in 2014, so it is already 8 years you're “in business”, are you satisfied with the achievement you had? What has changed in the music scene for you in this period?

It was been a long journey indeed and although we have been synonymous with the term ‘Hard Rock’, in the country, the last two albums have really stamped our name in the international scene, in a lot of ways. We still think there is a long way to go. It is not easy to break out and start touring everywhere, being a band from India. The change we have observed is that we are finally getting the audience we had always looked for and joining Frontiers has further fuelled it.

Live music has been hit hard by the pandemic in the last two years, yet also had some problems also before in my opinion. Were you able to play live lately? What can be done to help this kind of business and all people that get their work from it?

We played a few shows In 2020. After that it was directly in Switzerland at the UrRock fest, In 2021. We also played a couple of shows recently, which have helped. Being primarily a band that earns from live shows, it was indeed really hard when the pandemic hit us. But I think this shifted some of our focus to stuff like online guitar classes etc. We ended up finding new avenues. I think music education is a great field for any musician to tap into.

Finally, from a musical point of view, I think GATC are a band with a strong need for live performances, thinking to the sheer energy coming from your songs. Did you agree? Can you a live gig you played you would really remember?

Yes the fact that we’ve been performing for a long time, definitely affects the way we write and record. The experience reflects in our songs. We just need to feel the “Bang”, else the song is incomplete haha. I think our first performance UrRock fest in Switzerland was something to remember for a long time. Another Great gig was sharing stage with Poets of the fall in Bangalore, back in 2016. Massive crowd.

Last words: thanks for your nice music, if it will be possible, I will enjoy one of your fore-coming live shows!

Thank you so much, we certainly hope we can see you soon !
